On August 25–29 the FeLow-D project together with Kaunas University of Technology (KTU)co-organized the international conference Advanced Materials and Technologies (AMT 2025) in Palanga. The event gathered researchers, industry representatives, and young scientists to explore the latest breakthroughs in advanced materials.

As part of the program, FeLow-D ERA Chair holder at ISSP UL, Dr. Andrei Kholkin, chaired a session and gave a keynote on “Magnetoelectric Nanostructures for Biomedical Applications”. He highlighted how magnetoelectric sensors are emerging as highly sensitive tools for applications such as magnetocardiography and magnetoencephalography,whileinnovativecore–shell nanoparticles open new perspectives for deep brain stimulation, tissue regeneration, and other cutting-edge biomedical solutions.

The AMT conference became a true success for FeLow-D boosting international collaboration, inspiring young researchers, and highlighting the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) as a regional hub for innovation and lab-to-market transitionin advanced materials.

The FeLow-D project, funded under the Horizon Europe programme, shall transform ISSP UL into a globally recognized center of excellence in low-dimensional ferroelectrics. Its mission is to build new research capacity, attract top international talent, strengthen academic–industry partnerships, and accelerate innovations in biomedical devices, smart sensors, and sustainable energy harvesting technologies.
