On April 4th, Latvia celebrated Shadow Day 2025 — a national event where students have the opportunity to visit workplaces and observe professionals in action.

At the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, we were thrilled to open our doors and introduce school students to the world of research. This year’s event was made even more special thanks to the involvement of FeLow-D project researchers, who actively shared their scientific work with the visiting students.

Throughout the day, students had a unique chance to:

  • Learn about career opportunities in science and research,
  • See how materials are characterised using scanning electron microscopy, and
  • Discover what day-to-day life in a research institute looks like.

It was a valuable opportunity to inspire young people, demystify scientific careers, and ignite interest in the physical sciences. We believe events like Shadow Day are crucial for connecting education with real-world opportunities and for encouraging the next generation to explore careers in STEM.

We’re proud to be part of this initiative and look forward to continuing to support science education in the years to come.
