We are delighted to announce that Dr. Andrei Kholkin, the ERA-Chair holder of the FeLow-D project at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL), has been honoured with the prestigious IEEE “Robert E. Newnham Ferroelectrics Award.” This distinguished recognition is awarded for his seminal lifetime contributions to ferroelectric research, outstanding mentorship, and dedicated service to the scientific community. The award procedure was conducted in conjunction with the IEEE ISAF-ICE-ISIF-PFM symposium in Graz (Austria).

Dr. Kholkin’s extensive career, characterized by several discoveries and significant advancements in the understanding of ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials, has profoundly influenced the global scientific landscape. His research has consistently pushed the boundaries, enabling critical innovations in ferroelectric materials, energy harvesting systems, and biocompatible piezoelectrics.

The FeLow-D project team is proud of Dr. Kholkin’s remarkable achievement. We are especially pleased to have him as our ERA-Chair holder, actively contributing his expertise and vision to the growth and development of ISSP UL within the FeLow-D project framework.

The FeLow-D project, funded by Horizon Europe, focuses on advancing low-dimensional ferroelectric materials aimed at cutting-edge electronic and biomedical applications. By establishing a world-class research group, FeLow-D will elevate Latvia’s position in European and global scientific communities, foster talent retention, and drive innovative industry collaborations. Under Dr. Kholkin’s guidance, ISSP UL is set to become a leading hub for sustainable research and innovative applications in the field of ferroelectric materials, significantly benefiting scientific and technological development in Latvia and Europe.
